Launch Library: CTE and Engineering Cutaways
This Launch Library bundle gives virtual and hybrid program teachers a ready-to-use set of CTE and engineering activities for grades 6 through 12. Students start with foundational safety and physics concepts, build through diagnostics and process control, and progress to interactive 3D cutaways of real-world machines including electric vehicle motors, jet engines, and the Mars Perseverance rover. Each activity is self-paced and self-checking, so students can work independently or in remote cohorts. Activities in this package (in teaching order, simplest to most complex): 1. What Is OSHA — and Why Does It Matter in This Class? — Simulation introducing key OSHA safety standards for the automotive shop (Mixed HS) 2. Four Forces of Flight — Game where students explain lift, drag, thrust, and weight (9th grade) 3. Wheels That Explore Another Planet — Simulation on Mars Rover wheel engineering (Engineering) 4. Engine Diagnostics — Simulation where students diagnose engine performance and emissions systems (100-level) 5. Why Precision and Process Control Matter — Problem-solving activity on precision measurement and statistical process control (100-level) 6. Sizing Solar: A Day in the Life of a PV Designer — Interactive lesson on designing and sizing a photovoltaic system (100-level) 7. Fire Triangle, Suppression and Incident Command — Simulation applying the fire triangle and selecting suppression methods (100-level) 8. Upstream Oil and Gas Operations — Interactive lesson evaluating drilling, extraction, and production operations (100-level) 9. EV Motor 3D Cross-Section — Rotate and tap a 3D electric vehicle motor to learn how each component works (Mixed HS) 10. Jet Engine 3D Cross-Section — Explore a 3D jet engine cutaway with tappable compressor, combustion, and turbine stages (Mixed HS) 11. Mission to Mars: Meet Perseverance 3D — Rotate and tap the 3D Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover to learn about its instruments (Mixed HS) 12. EV Powertrain 3D Model — Explore a 3D model of an electric vehicle powertrain as a cohesive, presentation-ready system (100-level) 13. EV Interactive 3D Scene — Navigate a 3D electric vehicle scene to understand how the drivetrain connects (100-level)
